Concrete Contractor in Agoura Hills - Driveways and Patios Built on a Packed Base

We're a Malibu-based concrete contractor pouring driveways, patios, pool decks and retaining walls for homes in Agoura Hills. I come out to measure your job myself, and our crew digs out and packs the ground before any concrete goes in.

Agoura Hills driveways and patios, as we find them

Agoura Hills runs from flat streets near the freeway up into canyons and hillside neighborhoods, so a lot of the driveways we look at here climb or drop toward the garage. Many of the calls are about older slabs that have cracked, sunk at the edges or tipped so water pools by the garage door or against the house.

Plenty of lots here have room for a long driveway, a pool deck or a patio cut into the slope, and on those jobs drainage and the base get planned before we talk about finish. We do the same work next door in Oak Park, where the hillside lots raise many of the same questions.

Concrete work we do in Agoura Hills

Most of our calls here are driveways, patios and pool decks, often on lots that slope toward the house or the street. We also build retaining walls and steps where a yard has to be cut into the hill, along with garage floors, sidewalks, and the slabs, footings and foundations for rebuilds and additions. For a patio or pool deck with a pattern pressed into it, see our stamped concrete work.

What shapes a concrete job in Agoura Hills

Whether your job needs a permit is the City of Agoura Hills' call, so before I price anything I check what the city asks for at your address and tell you what I found. If an approval is needed, we plan the start date around it, and that's usually the first thing that sets the schedule. You can check two things on any contractor you're considering. One is a state license from the California Contractors State License Board. The other is a current city business license, which in Agoura Hills runs one year from the day it's issued and has to be renewed before then. We're fully licensed and insured, and for questions about your own lot, the city has the final word.

The price moves with the size of the slab, how much old concrete we break out and haul away, how deep the base has to go, how much rebar goes in to hold the slab together, and the finish, from a plain broom finish with a light texture for grip up to stamped. Access counts too, because some hillside and canyon streets are tight for a concrete truck, and a steep lot can mean a pump or a retaining wall. Your written scope breaks each of those out with its own price. We take the same kinds of jobs in Westlake Village and the other cities around Malibu.

What you get when we take your job

Base dug out and packed first

What's under your slab matters more to me than the finish on top. Our crew digs out soft dirt and packs the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, because a base that's only raked level settles and takes the concrete with it. If the budget's tight, cut the finish, not the base.

A written scope you can check line by line

Before any work begins, I write down what goes under and into your concrete, from base depth and slab thickness to rebar and where the joints go. You get it with the price, so you can compare it line by line with any other bid.

I measure it and stay on site

I come out to look at your property and take the measurements myself, and I'm on site with our crew while we work. When a project has an architect, engineer or soil consultant, we work alongside them. Satisfaction guaranteed. Call (424) 388-5404 to set up a visit.

Questions Agoura Hills homeowners ask about concrete

How much does a new concrete driveway cost in Agoura Hills?

The price comes from your driveway's size, how much old concrete has to come out, how deep the base needs to go and how easily a truck can reach it. Rebar, the finish and any retaining wall on a sloped lot add to it. I measure on site and send a written scope with a price you can compare line by line.

How long will I be without my driveway after a new pour?

You're off it from the day we break out the old concrete until the new slab has cured enough to carry a car, and that takes longer than it takes before you can walk on it. Curing is the wait while fresh concrete gains strength, and driving on it early is how edges crack and break off. I give you the walk-on and drive-on dates for your job before we pour.

What causes a concrete driveway or patio to crack and sink?

Most cracking and sinking starts under the slab, where the base was raked level instead of dug out and packed, so it settles along with the dirt. Water running under the concrete or a slab that falls toward the house makes it worse. So do control joints that were cut late or skipped. Those are the grooves cut on purpose so the slab cracks along a line we choose. Concrete still cracks, so we check where the water runs, pack the base and cut the joints on time so any crack lands where we planned it.

How do I plan a concrete patio on a sloped lot in Agoura Hills?

Start with where the water goes, because a patio on a hillside has to shed water away from the house. From there we decide whether the slope needs a cut, a step or a retaining wall, then dig out and pack the base before any forms go up. I walk the lot with you, mark the grades and put it all in the written scope.

Do I need a licensed contractor for a concrete job in Agoura Hills?

You do if the job needs a building permit, uses any hired workers, or comes to $1,000 or more in labor and materials, under the state licensing board's rules. The board doesn't allow a bigger job to be split into smaller contracts to stay under that $1,000 line. We're fully licensed and insured.

Can I cancel a home improvement contract by email in California?

Yes. The state licensing board's law book sums up a bill that lets you cancel a home improvement contract by email. The same bill requires the contract to list the contractor's email address. Ours is estimates@concretemalibu.com, and it goes on our contracts.
